The Building Source was established in December 2013. It was created out of a need to have construction and building tools at everyone’s fingertips, 24 hours a day for 7 days a week. We offer the most comprehensive list of building products, building professionals and construction-relevant information locally available. From home renovations to new multi-leveled commercial building complexes, and everything else in between.
Mrs. Ruana Booker-Evans, Managing Director, had 8 years of experience as an architect prior to starting The Building Source. To date she practices through her firm, Ruana Booker Architect. Having years of experience in the field as well as being driven by a passion for constantly wanting more out of life, Ruana went beyond her comfort zone. Out of this, The Building Source was born. Ruana has indic
ated that once she achieves her goal and vision for The Building Source she plans to re-direct her entire focus back to her primary business; with plans of expanding her portfolio by venturing into property development.
Ruana is strongly inspired by her desire to live comfortably and has realized that in order to do so some sacrifices must be made. Those sacrifices include loss of quality time with her son, lack of sleep from being a new entrepreneur as well as the enjoyment of leisure activities such as socializing. These sacrifices could not be avoided as the majority of her time is dedicated to the building of her business and being fully responsible for its affairs. These sacrifices have not been made in vain as Ruana has begun to see her industriousness paying off.
Fortunately for her, she was able to officially launch her company at Hyatt Regency Hotel last year where she received a heartfelt welcome into the business world as well as tremendous praise from the minister of planning and sustainable development, Honorable Dr. Bhoendradatt Tewarie, for the innovation and the determination that she has shown. Today she can rest with the knowledge that her company is the only ‘one-stop shop’ for anything relating to construction in Trinidad and Tobago.
This would not have been possible were it not for the use of technology, a medium that she has utilized to the fullest extent in order to understand the nature of the business that she was embarking upon. She carefully studied the market trends in the construction industry and apprised herself of the needs and demands of her customers, thereby gaining the much needed knowledge and information to go about satisfying those various requirements.
Although her job can be arduous at times, she takes delectation in getting positive feedback from customers. In order to produce such outstanding work, however, she first has to get herself in the right frame of mind. The only possible way to do this was by having her own independent thoughts and decisions as opposed to being told by someone what to do and how it should be done. This, without a doubt, is one of the many advantages of being an entrepreneur.
In her spare time Ruana enjoys painting and would like to get back into it. She also has plans to design furniture in the future but currently finds joy in designing costumes for renowned mas bands Tribe and Bliss. Although her business is not the typical run-of-the-mill business which we tend to hear about, it is indeed a business to keep an eye on as Ruana plans to execute future ideas to the best of her abilities. Although she generally tends to keep those plans a secret, she did tell us to look out for a building and construction trade show in the not too distant future.
